The New Law of the Sea
and
the Settlement of Disputes
The UN Law of the Sea Convention has brought at the same time stability and innovation in the Law of the Sea, the oldest branch of international law. Tullio Treves, a negotiator of the Convention, now a Judge of the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea, illustrates the Convention's contribution to the development of international law in the perspective of the judicial settlement of disputes.
